Svartelder - Trenches
Release Date: August 2nd, 2024
Soulseller Records
Svartelder are a black metal inspired band from Norway. "Trenches" is a dauntlessly inventive album that combines stark charm with abrasive character. Each track on this release give rise to twists that shade tedious experiences from listeners. All the allure of black metal is present along with many foreboding escalations that make the album interesting. Svartvelder are enjoyable in all their immoral and sickening conveyance. Just enough speed, melody and abrasiveness is present on "Trenches" to appeal to a wide audience within black metal's underground circles. I originally came across Svartelder a few years ago with their "Askebundet" EP. I was a fan of that album so I was thrilled to receive this submission. I also own, "Pyres" but I am a little more unfamiliar with that album over "Askebundet". Svartelder took black metal's original vision and added substantial darkened faculty. Apparently notable names within the genre are present on this release. They respectfully chose to remain unknown to allow the music to breathe without preconceived notions. This is a solid release that I will continue to play many times through.
