Sermon - "Till Birth Do Us Part"
Release Date: February 10th, 2023
Bitume Productions
As I have stated a few times already, I love doom metal. From my first exposure as a kid with Penance, Cathedral and My Dying Bride to all the various forms of it today. Sermon is a Turkish doom/death metal band that specializes in my favorite style of doom. Paying tribute to the sounds of classic Paradise Lost they confidently produce their own original take on doom/death metal. Self-assured musicianship here solidly crafts an emotive response to the inner despair and anguish that we all face sometimes. The wonderfully layered guitars on "Till Birth Do Us Part" focus as melodic counterparts to an effective rhythm section. The vocalist Harun Altun has a varied approach sometimes comparable to Mourning Beloveth in my opinion. Other subtle musical elements such as violins and keyboards are present as well. This adds to the blissfully calamitous atmosphere already present. Sermon has done a great job here generating a darkened yet tragically beautiful piece of music.
They got their start in 1997 releasing a demo called, "Cosmic Prisoner". After another demo titled, "Sea of Meanings" they went onto perform on a Turkish television show called "Rock Market". Sermon split up in 2004 but are back now with only original member Cem Barut on rhythm guitars. Come 2023, Sermon have released their first full length album here. I must say they have done a great job and its well worth your time to listen.
