Red Rot - Borders Of Mania
Release Date: May 10th, 2024
Hammerheart Records
Red Rot are a venturesome band from Italy. Given that it was founded by Luciano Lorusso George and Davide Tiso of Ephel Duath this is not surprising. Anyone familiar with their previous work know to expect some daring musical choices and general experimentation. As its own entity Red Rot is a ferocious, threatening beast of a band. Expansive in its influences, they portray elements of avantgarde hardcore with touches of other extreme metal genres. I appreciate the clever musical choices present in their overall sound. Its not over-the-top with technicality but creative enough in movement to retain my universal interest. Red Rot channel their inflamed vehemence with brilliant style.
I especially enjoy the dual guitars that play off each other with an almost cacophonous quality. The vocals on this album transition between a throaty hardcore inspired shout to occasional sung ideas loosely comparable to Anaal Nathrakh. Borders of Mania does an excellent job of sharing Red Rot's rage with the listener. Only a few bands come around that make me want to break stuff. Red Rot does this for me.
