Profane Burial - "My Plateau"
Release Date: March 1st, 2024
Label: Crime Records
What an interesting listen. Profane Burial approaches black metal with a progressive flair reminding me of the genre's more explorative days of the late 1990's and early 2000's. Think Solefald, ...And Oceans or Dodheimsgard for a possible reference. Tastefully used orchestral sounds are accompanied by varied guitars and the normal black metal rasp the genre is known for. Despite my ability to appreciate "My Plateau" in the present, I would have raved about this 20 years ago. Profane Burial consists of members that are linked to such bands as Borknagar, Funeral, Cadaver and Halmad plus others I am less familiar with. This band represents what attracted me to black metal early on. Albums such as this are something to spend time with and soak in all the twists that the music takes. The attraction here is not with an immediate response but one that develops with each listen.
