NATTVERD - Tidloes Naadesloes
Release Date: March 21st, 2025
Soulseller Records
Nattverd are a Norwegian black metal band that spew unforgiving hatred in an unholy display of aggressiveness. They got their start in the 1990's but did not start releasing full albums until 2017. "Tidloes Naadesloes" is their fifth album of pure no-frills black metal. The graceful qualities that some mainstream black metal may have are not present here. What Nattverd convey is a punishing force that pushes against what some black metal has evolved into. The album does not rely on subpar production though to get its point across. Instead of the lofi choices some artists make for stylistic reasons, Nattverd's sound is full. Their musical exhibitions are easily distinguished amongst each element present. Without depending on asinine hooks they have created an accessible release. The integrity of the music is not lost in a whirlwind of ideas that have no movement or resolution. I appreciate the guitars especially that are layered in a compelling way. They sometimes diverge into a separate entities that serve the whole. The strength of Nattverd is shown in their ability to retain black metal's sound while showcasing an aptitude of intelligent song crafting. It should be noted that Hoest from Taake does guest vocals on three songs. Also, Von Hellreich does guest vocals on one track as well. Highly recommended.
