Moral Putrefaction - Self-titled
Release Date: May 24th, 2024
Self-released
Moral Putrefaction is an Indian death metal band that has managed to create a hard-hitting piece of music. Their debut album is ferocious enough to provoke anger yet intelligent enough to captivate. The complexities of modern death metal are present here along side the memorable attributes of its classic sounds. The music is varied in its ideas not spending too long on one general feel and flows well into the next thought. The production is top notch with all the instruments shining through to build its greater purpose. The band lists "Morbid Angel, Immolation, Bloodbath, and Gorguts" as influences. I can hear a little bit of all these greats here with a special emphasis on Gorguts perhaps. As their press release states, Moral Putrefaction won their country's 2022 Waken Metal Battle. This allowed them to perform at the festival that same year. On this release they chose to move beyond stereotypical subjects akin to death metal and address issues within their home country. These concerns include, "opposing caste discrimination and political corruption". Moral Putrefaction also wanted to expose the "horrors of colonialism and religious extremism" in their country. Wether they chose to remain an unsigned act is unknown to me. This band has the talent to exist on the same labels as their influences for sure. Check them out.
