Metamorphosis
By
Monica Luo
Silk strings harden to steel slashing
Drawing the dark red bleeding out
Fire ignites threads splitting skin
Screaming against the heat within
Bone grinding to cremated ash
Teeth tearing eight legs limb from limb
Pestilent venom, spreading, corroding
Ensnared in the lies of a self-spun web
Shed the molt and bury what’s left
Unintended immolation, life undone
The futile metamorphosis now complete
