Master -  Among the Seeds of Death
Release Date: October 16th, 2026
Hammerheart Records

Master is a band that everyone who enjoys extreme metal should be familiar with. Started in 1983, they are one of the first death metal bands.
Impressively, "Among the Seeds of Death" is their 16th album after 2024's "Saints Dispelled". On this album they chose to stay with what they know best in regards to their sound. Staying true to their vintage roots, they still are a violent mixture of classic punk, thrash, and death metal.

With a guitar's howling wail, "Twas Always A Plan" sets forth a perilous venture into punk-infused death metal territory. Crusty in all the right ways, the song is bestial in its simplicity. The no-frills charm of the song is what drives the listener into a frenzy of unadulterated hate. "Among the Seeds of Death" begins with a classic sounding death metal riff. Its musically barbaric beating leaves the listener begging for reprieve from its unforgiving attack. As a whole, the track twists and tears with uncontrolled homicidal intentions. A savage bass introduction starts, "Injustice and Lack of Remorse". The rest of the song is a journey through seedy back-ally miseries, its deathly grime plastering everything. Without momentary gasps of air we are left to fester in its sordid environment. "A Cell With a Door and No Slave" starts with an interplay between bass and guitar. This erupts quickly into speedy death metal belligerence. Crafting the straightforward approach here are the old-souls of vintage metallic fury. Basking in putrefying rot, "Unsettled Loss" is a continuation of their purposefully distasteful impudence. Carving out musical decompositions to revel in their bloody masses of hate inspired nastiness. Noticeable lyrical contributions to the track also touch on societal grievances. "Within my Grasp" spits in the face of the pure-hearted channeling of the well intentioned. With a driving feel the song is an anger filled, menacing ambush on the listener. Choosing to embrace pure emotions of animosity, Master create a striking world of their own that truly loathes. Next, "Watch As Children Burn" is a direct embodiment of all their influences. I hear examples of anger-filled punk, thrash and death metal. Each intertwining into a mass of malevolence. A fascination with bitterness is apparent with the disgustingly ripe nature of their music. "Dust's Arrival" has a sinister start with a darkly melodic idea. Detonating soon after is an outburst of sickly contempt. Calling out all the unworthy that witness the absolute nature of these classic sounds. The album ends with, "Let's Revoke". A formulation of fatal musical derivatives that have created a fine ending to a unique metallic encounter. It does not stray too far from their intended sound, but continues with what they do best. This being their poisonous onslaught of musical depravity. In these times we are witness to the ending of the first generations of extreme music. I am happy to be of the age to have experienced the birth of and the continuation of many of the genres fine moments.
