Jade/Sanctuarium - The Sempiternal Wound
Release Date: September 13th, 2024
Pulverised Records
"The Sempiternal Wound" is a split album between two bands from areas around Barcelona. The first band on the album, Jade, is an excellent melodic doom/death metal entity. What I love about bands that do this style are the multiple guitar layerings to achieve a full and captivating sound. Jade has a dense approach with everything going on. This pulls me in further to appreciate all the subtle sounds throughout the tracks. The vocalist for Jade has a common approach for the genre but he even layers his voice with differently to ward off stagnancy. I grew to love this genre of melodic death/doom early on. Im a sucker for a well written song.
Sanctuarium are the second band on the album. Their initial track, "Recomposition Of Carbonized Corpses", begins with a slow traditional doom chord movement then escalates to a classic death metal sound. The track spends time exploring different attitudes that are varied in inspiration. Their second track, "Malodorous Osteophagy In Acrimony", is mid-paced with its feel after its initial ominous beginning before returning to doom and gloom. I can appreciate the grittiness of Sanctuarium's creations. It's not polished to a lifeless corpse. Sanctuarium have a classic early to mid 1990s doom/death metal sound that I enjoy. These are stylistically two different doom bands. Together they created a solid split for any fan of the doom/death metal genre. Like me.
