House By The Cemetary - The Mortuary Hauntings
Release Date: May 31st, 2024
Pulverised Records
House By The Cemetary is aptly named considering its inspiration from old-school death metal and horror films. The band name itself is derived from a 1981 cult horror film of the same name. The Mortuary Hauntings captures all the sickening aspects of its musical intentions that you would desire. Such song names as, "Cadavers Emerge" and "Beware Of The Woods" sets the tone for a fun and campy experience. This is not to say that the music is anything but the brutal well played death metal that it is. The band features experienced death metal musicians from bands such as Paganizer, ex-Monstrosity and ex-Ribspreader. The vocalist is from Divine Rapture as well who I haven't thought of in some time but remember fondly. House By The Cemetary expresses classic death metal in a fearless way. They are confidant in their combination of the death metal and horror genres that are suitably meant for each other. The album is stripped down in its musical approach, focusing on a rhythmic groove that characterizes much of the classic death metal sound. Lyrically and sound-wise, vocalist Mike Hrubovcak doesn't shy away from a catchy and enjoyable terror filled approach. I envision zombies at every turn ready to disembowel and feast on putrid flesh giving birth to more menacing creatures. If you like your metal mischievous and entertaining with horror themed attributes this is for you.
