Gods & Punks - Death
Release Date: July 26th, 2024
Electric Valley Records
Through a hazy blanket of vintage inspired veils, God & Punks have offered their take on a classic sound. Many bands have set out to capture a bit of the stoner/doom glory days. Gods & Punks have written a convincing ode to classic Sabbath sounds. I love the instrumentation on the album. It aligns firmly with my personal tastes in music. The music is heavy and serves the song without showboating. It is also varied between subtle and driving passages that make for an engaging experience. The guitar tone has a nice amount of grit combined with murky fuzz that fans of the genre love. The only thing that took my a bit to latch onto was the vocalist. He has a unique voice that finally settled in for me after the first few songs. Could just be my ears today as well. Gods & Punks brought a decent album with "Death". Good for zoning out to.
Gods & Punks are a Brazilian band that set out in 2013 to write music from the "stoner" genre they enjoy. In 2017 they released their debut album "Into the Dunes of Doom". This was followed by a few more albums leading to this album, "Death", which follows the 2021 near death experience of the vocalist. I think they have made a powerful album here. It will stand out among the many other current bands that attempt this genre. Listen!
