God of Sin
By
J. Agombar
I cast no judgement upon gender or race, a sly non-discriminate creature of grace
Nothing so vile as a sin, they say, but I linger and lie with those words just in case
They indulge in my lustful desires and bathe, in those tempting waters where nymphs misbehave.
Shrouded by flora and sweet to the taste, I’m a wine that so few are willing to waste.
I am that voice on the end of your phone, you know that you shouldn’t be calling alone
But hang up you might and acknowledge my heart, that becomes the hindrance you carved out of stone.
Returning in forms that can interbreed, a killer, a liar, a pervert, a thief
Are you able to justify all that you’ve done? Or will only god’s hand bestow you reprieve?
Banality urges those who contrive, so indulge in the fruit from my squamous hide
Purity beckons a soul from afar, but in my vicinity you’ll feel so alive.
Make me an offer and I’ll build you a prison, where no counsel is offered and no priest will listen
But onward you wade toward that desire, through Acherons river where conviction is wizened.
I deal in violence, envy, and greed, if pride and your lust cannot sate what you need
Will you not cherish occasions with me? Or stand by your morals in anodyne seas?
Shakespeare once said ‘some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall’ within
The depths of that righteousness is self-averred, so pay your obeisance to your god of Sin.
