Fried

By

Todd Matson

I – Pet Peeves

They don’t know
what they’re talking
about when they say
the drugs fried my brain
and make me forget things
but what really pisses me off
is when they say the drugs fried
my brain and make me forget things.

II – Pickup Lines

All I said was,
Hey babe, what’s
a girl like you doing
in a place like this? and
she was frigid: My name is
not babe, I’m a woman not a
girl, and we’re in rehab not a bar!
So I saw this hot chick, Hey babe, what’s
a girl like you doing in a place like this? and
she was cold: You asked me that ten minutes ago!
F-off!  I swear I never saw that girl before that moment!

III – Rock Bottom

So shoot me!
All I asked was
if he had any weed
and he acted just like my
old man:  I work here, and no!
That guy went on to lecture me that
I’m going to have to hit rock bottom before
I get better but I had to stop him right there!  I’ve
hit the Rock Bottom many times and the Jungle Birds are
to die for!  The pineapple, Campari and hot rum are delicious!
You can’t have just one and there is truly nothing better in this world!

IV – The Transplant List

It feels like some
form of discrimination!
They tell me that I need a new
liver but that I must remain sober for
an entire year before I can even qualify for
the transplant list because nobody is going to give
a perfectly good liver to someone who is only going to
give it cirrhosis all over again.  When I say that I might not
have a year and who knows how long it will take to get a new liver
after I’m on the list, they just look at me.  I think they’re running a scam.
You better believe I’m not going to buy them a drink after I get out of this place.
