Flames, etc.

Flames
Glorious killing fields,
flames licking Heaven
skies reflect brilliant shades
of tangerine and scarlet,
only to leave behind
a legacy of destruction.
Homes desecrated
in the aftermath,
smoke choking victims
as they mourn memories
lost to wildfires,
burnt to the ground
ruins all around them
crumbling to dust.
Life and Death
burrowed in crevices
withering branches
nourish eggs
life-cycle begins
rooted in darkness
sunlight awakens
transcending the silence
translucent wings beat
a piercing symphony
a cry of rebirth
a call of death
the ground awaits
Convinced she was destined to be an artist, Suzie Lockhart attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh after graduating high school, but the gnawing urge to write continued to challenge her. Originally, her desire was to write romance novels, but after discovering the innate ability to tell chilling tales, Suzie embraced her inner creepiness. Her middle son, Bruce realized the same passion for the macabre, so it was a natural progression to team up. Over a decade later, they have published enough short stories that they can no longer remember the dozens of paperbacks publications and e-zines to their name.
After building a solid reputation, they were asked by a small U.K. publisher to edit an anthology. “Nightmare Stalkers & Dream Walkers” took second place in the 2013 ‘P&E Readers Poll.’ Four more anthologies yielded another top ten award for “Fractured Realms,” a charity anthology benefitting the Autism Trust.
Suzie continued editing, working on the highly acclaimed anthologies, “Killing It Softly 1 & 2.” The first book was featured in an article by ‘Publisher’s Weekly’ and the second installment received a ‘Solstice Award’ for best horror anthology of the year.
After editing “A Scream in the Night,” Suzie was struck by lightening (lol), and “Dastardly Damsels” was born. Crystal Lake took on publishing the project, and Suzie was thrilled to have everyone’s diligent efforts recognized when the anthology won the elusive #1 spot in the ‘P & E Readers Poll,” not to mention a write-up in “Rue Morgue Magazine!”
Recently, Suzie decided to work with her longtime friend and fellow author, Lindsey Goddard on a short story collection that was personal to them, titled “Come What May.” Recently, the book received praise from “Cemetery Dance Magazine.”
