Drowned - "Blue Moth Vault"
Release Date: January 26th, 2024
Sepulchral Voice Records
Drowned have created a well grounded album on "Blue Moth Vault". Eight songs of death metal comprised of memorable guitar ideas and varied movement within each song. What I like about Drowned's style of death metal is it doesn't linger too long on similar ideas. For me this change-up keeps the songs fresh and moving in a way that keeps a listener engaged. What is present on "Blue Moth Vault" is a variety of doom, death and thrash metal influences. All these are combined to create something that my not reinvent anything but it certainly plays to all its strengths. There is a quality sound though that I believe is specifically Drowned's. An evocatively dark and encompassing tribute to older sounds that were present at the time of their inception. My favorite song here would have to be "Phantom Stairs", but they are all enjoyable.
Drowned was originally founded in 1992 in Berlin, Germany. Their first full length album didn't come until 2014 though on Sepulchral Voice Records. Come 20024 we find their 2nd album being released on the same label. Drowned is for people that like their death metal diverse with an old-school flair in modern times.
