Harlingen, Netherlands based hardcore band Boneripper is set to release their furious 2nd album, "Radiant in Ruin". Then band is formed from current and ex-members of bands such as Manu Armata, 13Steps and Bladecrusher. With their new album they chose to step away from the metallic elements of their first release, "World Ablaze" to focus on a more anger-filled hardcore style. Lyrically the band sets out to take on many of the worlds problems including, "power structures, hypocrisy, and collective denial" with a call to action. Realizing a passive response will not see any results.
"Oracle Of Lies" has a punishing start in a modern hardcore style. Catchy ideas move from one crowd rousing chant to another. Easily making for a beat-down worthy trip into mayhem for live performances. Next, "Deeds Define" has a momentum that propels the listener forward into a whirling pit of empowered force. The mandatory breakdowns are present as with driving guitars that add diversity to their sound. "Damnation" begins with a more traditional "hardcore" sound bordering on the punk sounds their sound is traditionally derived from. The song than moves into territory that is cultivated from their own style. Slight metallic elements that are seamlessly intertwined with the genre they set out to successfully embody. While ruthlessly bombarding their audience, "Iron Veil" continues the albums path onward. A short 2:30 track that relies on groove and is fleshed out with its own strength and self-assured authority. "Truth To The Enemy" builds nicely into a determined song that generates a purposeful energy. Powerful in its variety of inspirations that doesn't leave the track dull. Breaking things up, "Convective Outlook" has an uncharacteristically mellow instrumental sound. Again, offering traits that are not always found within this genre. "Borrowed Breath" has a start that builds nicely into a powerful confrontational onslaught. Perhaps some moments similar to a southern metal sound during the chorus with the binding arpeggio runs. Within it all, it still retains a frenzied delivery. The next track, "State Of Mind" is a strong force right from the audience's initiation that moves into a catchy chorus that sticks with the listener. Overall it is an energetic creative endeavor. "Violent Virtue" has a slower start that eventually creates many fluid assertive progressions mixed with mid-paced ear-catching change-ups. It is tastefully brutal in a refined sense. The song ends with a separate potent separate idea of its own that closes out the track with meaning. Next, "Refuse Persist" strikes vehemently with a mighty strength. Though the band states they toned down the metallic elements in favor of a more hardcore sound, I still hear it woven throughout their sound. Unrelenting, the band is strategically purposeful in their musical goal. The last full-length track, "Cold Hearts Burn" embodies more of the abrasive personality present on the rest of the album. It displays an un-yielding energy that captivates and emboldens the bands objective. The album ends with, "Radiant In Ruin" which has a spoken word accompaniment over 56 seconds of music.
