Bliss of Flesh - Metempsychosis
Release Date: November 7th, 2025
Black Lion Records

Bliss Of Flesh is a French black/death metal band who will release their fifth album, "Metempsychosis" on November 7th through Black Lion Records. The band has been in existence for an impressive 25 years playing regularly on many European stages. On their previous releases they focused on various concepts. The first three albums were based off of Dante's Divine Comedy and the fourth was inspired by, "Étienne de La Boétie’s Le Discours de la Servitude Volontaire (The Voluntary Servitude Thesis)". On "Metempsychosis" which is the "transmigration of the soul after death from one body to another", Sikkardinal (band member) wote the album over an impressive span of seven days, "fueled by an intense period of hatred." The band goes on to say, "The songwriting and arrangements dwell in insanity and torment, directly inspired by our cursed existences”. The newest release follows the diminishing of an individual through the gradual loss of their five senses. This drives them into a state of self-reflection, trying to understand their new-found place in a "hellish" world with the worsening of their personal state. As each personal alteration occurs they need to start over again, learning to function in their desolate surroundings. All of this leading to the grand finale of eventual death.

The album begins with, "A Loss" with a dramatic build up in the beginning that sets an ominous tone. This eventually is elevated into metallic misery. With every new passage, there is a new feel. Grappling emotions, perhaps indicative of the subject matter of the album. The transforming of sounds leads into a burst of anger caused by disheartening realizations. "I Deny" starts with a catchy melodic interplay with well placed rhythms. Eventually let loose from its confines, unbridled anger is set free with aggressive speed. This eventually resolves back into appealing melodic patterns not easily forgotten. The third track, "Sacrifice" has a captivating mid-paced start. Dual guitars add dimension to Bliss of Flesh's sound. The band stands out in song-writing capabilities. Unfixed in a certain feel, they move effortlessly into other areas retaining a listeners attention. "If Only" has a somberly quiet introduction. From there, Bliss Of Flesh are a mobile entity. Operating amongst increased momentum and a differing musical response. Confrontational yet willing to bring the listener into the song's embittered folds. Next, "Verdammt" is a minute and a half long reprieve that features spoken word with a calming but alarming musical accompaniment. "The Awakening" is an anger filled unfurling from the previous track. Easing the listener in with a melodic intro, the song develops into hostile territory. Paving over any remaining inner peace with four minutes of belligerent force. The next song, "Adieu" can be characterized by dissonance and rhythmic variation. Occasional chugging guitar work is complimented by speedier progressions and traverses a slightly different landscape than previous tracks. "Metempsychosis" begins in similar fashion to previous tracks with a slightly more restful, yet intense experience. As desired by the fan of this genre, the music picks back up. Bliss of Flesh are masters of moving songs forward with distinct ideas that feed the whole entity. "Martyr" closes the album. Accumulating resentments are displayed in a crushing destruction of hope. Fast and menacing, the song tears down any aspirations for a better world. Succumbing to an indignant mindset inspired by the harsh reality that is existence.

A polished black/death metal album that took time to get all the intricate details perfect. Worth your time and support.
