ARAN ANGMAR - Ordo Diabolicum
Release Date: March 21st, 2025
Soulseller Records
Aran Angmar got their start in 2020 formed by their guitarist, Stavros B. Their initial album, "Black Cosmic Elements" was released by Time Tombs Production. Upon signing to Soulseller Records after their 2nd album, "Atavism & Dying Stars" they participated in an excellent touring package. This tour consisted of notable bands such as Gorgoroth, Aeternus and Impalement. Stavros's vision that carried itself through two previous releases is now on a third album, "Ordo Diabolicum". The premise of the album focuses on darkness being a force that provides deliverance from the confines of our world. On this album they have chosen to utilize, "mediterranean atmospheres and nordic folk elements."
These components though are not over-powering. They provide a unique element to the album. The mixing and mastering was handled by Psychon (Septicflesh) at Sound Abuse Production, leaving the final product very rich and full sounding. All the elements come together to produce a product not so much harsh as it is professional and smooth. From the beginning track, "Dungeons of the Damned" to the ending track, "Vae Victis" every song consists of the right combination of catchiness and ruthlessness. Here, black metal takes on a modern flair for the new generation of the genre's devotees. Combining melody and a gripping rhythmic base, Aran Angmar created an album that could easily appeal to fans of many extreme metal genres. The only possible comparison I could draw could be with Rotting Christ's later works. This comes with a huge compliment because both Rotting Christ and Aran Angmar have just the right amount of diversifying elements to hold my attention. Though many forms of metal are enjoyable for me, I enjoy bands that understand the mechanics of songwriting. Aran Angmar put work into Ordo Diabolicum crafting a brutally satisfying yet engaging listen. They know how to put the music first and serve the song. The highlights for this release include the first track, "Dungeons of the Damned" and "Hêlēl ben-Šaḥar". Support them! (I just went and purchased their first two albums on Bandcamp because I enjoyed Ordo Diabolicum so much.)
