Amammoth - Distant Skies and The Ocean Flies
Release Date: March 21st, 2025
Electric Valley Records
Amammoth is a doom, stoner band from Sydney, Australia. On their second album, "Distant Skies and The Ocean Flies" they focus on a oceanic theme. Alien inhabitants are said to dwell in its depths and are supported by the conspiracy theories surrounding it. Combining a belligerent attitude with a slow, trance-inducing state, Ammamoth drown listeners into their crushing abyss. Their deep and sustained chords are augmented continuously by forceful movements inhibiting relief from pulverizing forces. Pulling cues from Eyehategod, Electric Wizard, The Melvins and Black Sabbath, Amammoth powerfully channel a weighty beast of a sound. A mandatory crusty guitar crunch drives their shouted vocals while irresistibly cultivated barbaric drums steer their cruel intentions. Occasional organ is performed by Jason Whalley on “Intro,” “Among Us,” and “Satellite" as well. Fans of doom in general will rejoice in Amammoth's meticulously crafted sound. An ocean concept is a fitting topic to build music of this genre around. Massive in its size and foreboding in its existence, what better subject matter could accompany and album such as, "Distant Skies and The Ocean Flies".
Started in 2016 with a demo titled, "Inhale" they went on to release an e.p titled, "Blackwitch" in 2019. Following their path forward Amammoth then went on to release their 1st album, "The Fire Above" in 2019. This album focused on the sun as the originator of life while opposing religious ties to it. Songs on this album also berated the "privileged class" at times.
Amammoth is worth your time as it was mine. The doom genre is lucky to have talent such as this.
