ACOD - "Versets Noirs"
Release Date: April 26th, 2024
Hammerheart Records
ACOD is something exceptional. Throughout the five tracks and 42 minutes of flowing black/death metal inspired anthems there is a distinctive
character that defines them. Catchy yet clever in their delivery, ACOD took time to make "Versets Noirs" an inventive release capturing confidence in their creative abilities. Complimenting a steady rhythmic base there are elements similar to the venturesome eras of the genre. Keyboards are used sparingly here to fill out an already well-produced sound. The guitars are not over-the-top but are used to drive the end product of the song. "Versets Noirs" characterizes what a quality album is for me. Every component of each track has a purpose and plays well off the others. Occasional breaks involving mellow instrumentation allow the faster parts of the album shine though and retain their overall engaging feel. I find the album art engrossing and believe its serves a purpose for the album as a whole. The cover sets the tone well for the expectations that the music fulfills. The album ends with a cover of Samael's, "Black Trip" song. The choice of this song is appropriate to the style in which ACOD play. I can see similarities between mid-era Samael and ACOD overall. "Versets Noir" will cater to anyone who has a broad taste in metal. They made a fan out of me and I will be headed to check out their previous five releases.
