Abramelin - Sins Of The Father
Release Date: October 4th, 2024
Hammerheart Records
Abramelin are a Australian death metal band that got their start in the late 80's and early 90's. The band continued to exist until a break in 2003 that ended with a reuniting in 2017. During their stretch they not only made a name for themselves but shared the stage with many reputable giants in their genre. "Sins Of The Father" is a punishing combination of old and new eras of death metal. Over the span of this 10 track album I hear the distinct brutality of 90's American death metal. Filling out their sound is the occasional melodic idea and thrash influence. Much of the album runs the line between blistering speed and interesting rhythmic breaks for diversity. There is a strength and self-assured solidarity in these songs. I wont say Abramelin are a reinvention of a genre but they know exactly what their musical goals are on this release. Death metal for love of the style. The vocalist reminds me of a more confidently delivered Chris Barnes. That's meant with respect given the generally negative opinion of Barnes's vocal technique. (I personally like SFU). True to some old-school death metal lyrical content, Abramelin wanted to lean heavily on horror themes. These were inspired by "splatter punk and extreme horror authors". It is noteworthy that members of this band have been involved with many bigger names. Pestilence, Akercocke, and Psycroptic are a few of the bands I was previously familiar with. People such as myself that love death metal will find "Sins Of The Father" a gripping and ferocious release. Support it.
